Now that we are in the fall season, your local Corpus Christi orthodontists would like to share a couple recipes we are confident you will “fall” in love with. Here are some amazing fall foods and snacks that are great for those wearing braces!

Easy Spicy Baked Apples

While you should not bite into a crisp apple when you are wearing braces, you can still enjoy a nice apple if you bake it in the oven to soften it up. This recipe is super easy to make and oh so delicious!

Ingredients:

6 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

½ cup sugar

3 tablespoons flour

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

¼ teaspoon ground cloves

½ cup whole milk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray. Place apples in a large bowl. In another bowl, mix together the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. The stir this mixture into the apples until they’re coated. Carefully place apples in the prepared baking dish and pour the milk evenly over the top. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until the apples are soft and bubbly. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Sweet Potato Pancakes

Who doesn’t love a nice warm stack of pancakes on a chilly fall day? These pancakes are especially yummy and healthy because they’re made with sweet potatoes which are in abundance during the fall season.

Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup whole wheat flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

¼ teaspoon nutmeg

2 cups milk

4 teaspoons melted butter (plus a bit more for greasing the skillet)

2 eggs

1 medium sweet potato, cooked until tender, peeled & pureed

Maple syrup for serving

Directions:

In large bowl, combine all the ingredients together (except the maple syrup) and mix well until smooth. Cook batches of pancakes in buttered skillet on medium high heat until bubbles form on the surface then flip over and cook until pancakes turn a golden brown. Serve warm with maple syrup and enjoy!
