Why We May Opt to Use Braces to Close a Gap in Your Front Teeth

Why We May Opt to Use Braces to Close a Gap in Your Front TeethUnless you are Georgia May Jagger and Lara Stone, both celebrities with a gap-toothed grin, you will probably agree that a smile with a gap too big does not look right. Those with a big gap between their teeth draw negative attention toward their mouth. It looks cumbersome, and most teenagers and adults alike prefer an otherwise attractive smile.

Dental Procedures to Close the Gap

The gap between the front teeth is often the result of small teeth or wide jaw. To alleviate this issue, there are several dental procedures to choose from. Dental bonding is a cosmetic treatment that can hide small gaps and improve your smile. This composite resin material is applied to the teeth closest to the gap. It makes the teeth look wider.

Dental veneers can also be used to improve the gap between teeth. A dental veneer is a thin piece of porcelain. It is permanently bonded to the tooth. The goal is to improve the appearance of the tooth and hide the old one. A slightly wider veneer could be bonded onto the front teeth to decrease the gap.

In most cases we suggest braces as the top orthodontic treatment to make a gap smaller between your teeth. Not only can we decrease the gap, but we can also fix other misalignment issues. By moving your teeth with braces, we can create a more holistic and aesthetically pleasing mouth, while achieving the highest level of functionality.
